About Dr. Lopez

After completing his Bachelor of Science in Physiological Sciences at the University of California at Los Angeles, Dr. Lopez attended medical school at the University of Louisville.  While there he was elected to the prestigious honor societies of Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Kappa Phi.  After receiving honors in nearly every class, he graduated Summa Cum Laude.   Dr. Lopez pursued his passion for the anatomy and physiological functions of the head, face, and neck by training at the University of Cincinnati Department of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery.  During his five years of training at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Lopez realized that his true passion was in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. He completed a fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago with world-renowned surgeons Dr. Dean Toriumi, Dr. Reagan Thomas, and Dr. Eugene Tardy.

Since completing his fellowship Dr. Lopez has served his country by being the Chief of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, TX.  Dr. Lopez deployed to Iraq in 2005 as the Head and Neck Surgeon for Balad Air Base Air Force Theater Hospital. While there Dr. Lopez operated on hundreds of patients with trauma of the head, face and neck.  Being able to serve the country that has given him so many opportunities has been a true highlight of his career, especially being able to support our brave men and women deployed to Iraq.

 

Dr. Lopez is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in facial plastic surgery. He is Double-Board Certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and by the American Board of Otolaryngology. He has published numerous articles for medical journals as well as book chapters that pertain to facial plastic surgery. As faculty at both Wilford Hall Medical Center and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dr. Lopez is able to share his passion for facial plastic surgery by teaching medical students and surgeons-in-training the art and science of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
